Maria Shiel grew up in Bristol, UK and is of West of Ireland descent. She has been writing and performing music for the last 20 years.
In the early 2000’s she established Irish and American roots/hip-hop band Guava in Galway, Ireland and went on to tour nationally sharing stages with Damien Rice and Glen Hansard of the Frames.
In 2011 she set up collaborative record label KYO Records in Dublin to specifically promote international musical collaboration and went on to work with musicians from all over Europe, China, Russia, and the USA. She has had several releases under her electronic moniker MS44 and an EP produced by acclaimed Irish DJ/ producer Eomac.
She has toured across the States playing at venues including CBGB’s, NY, and The Bluebird Cafe, Nashville and has played songwriting festivals in Texas and Tennessee.
